A Proud American

The cool part about that was that they were recorded, they were short—30 to 45 minutes—and they were going to go up on a webpage, and so, I still have people joining my list and listening to those calls at ListCrusade.com (http://listcrusade.com). The downside was that, though you have a recording of that, there was no urgency for anyone to take action, to buy anything during a recorded call. Still, to get to the calls, they had to join my list.

But a low conversion rate is the case with most recorded calls. There is very little urgency. Why would someone do a call, record it, and then just make that recording available as a primary marketing tool? It’s not a primary marketing tool. It is a backup strategy that you can use to generate more sales and get more people on your list.

Very rarely will a recorded call generate as many sales as a live call will, in my experience. The other thing is that in a live call, you can easily get away with 60 to 90 minutes. It’s pretty hard to keep someone’s attention that long on a recording on a webpage.

Finally, with teleseminars I get to do them live, get people on the calls, and move forward. The way that I did it before, I spent weeks doing the recordings before I was able to start making any money, and though they helped me to build a huge list, nothing happened until all the information for the first call was in place. There was the recording, the squeeze page, and I was doing most of this myself. Nothing happens overnight, not online or off.

But the calls are still viable. It’s free content. It’s great content. You learn a lot of good stuff from the recordings at ListCrusade. You can rely on them and it’s not very surprising. I generate some money from those recorded calls that are half-an-hour long that get delivered to people’s inboxes, but I don’t generate a lot. Still, by that time, they are on my list. So, they definitely have value.

I generate a lot more money and many more people join my list from teleseminars. All in all, teleseminars are great because you can do them live, you can make immediate money with them, you can build a list for them very easily for an event, and you can organize them one at a time versus having to have a whole autoresponder series ready when people join your newsletter or ezine.

Does that make sense?

Teleseminar | List-Building: The Secret to Gaining a HUGE List, One Step at a Time

Blogging and pinging, press releases, writing articles, doing Podcasts, or using AdWords. Choose one. None of them are the magic bullet. All of them can make you a million dollars–individually. You can get good at any one of those things and drive all the traffic you want for the rest of your life. (At least as long as it’s a viable traffic source. )

Meaning, you don’t have to be good in all of them. You need to start by being good in one of them. What we’re talking about are traffic streams. If you’re just building your first list, you may be falling into the same problem with traffic that people fall into when they think about multiple streams of income. They try to have 25 streams of income all at once, when none of them produce anything.

First and foremost, you need to build a list. So, if you’re going to do press releases, do a press release every day and link it to your list-building page. Press releases are just a way of getting a message out in front of people. AdWords are great, too, though. People make a lot of money with AdWords. But, test AdWords slowly, and see what gets you the most list members, first. If you want to take the time to figure that out, go for it.

Step one is to pick one topic to use AdWords for. Once you know what your topic is and have a squeeze page up to build your list, then if you want to drive traffic with AdWords, drive traffic with AdWords. Read Perry Marshall’s book, The Definitive Guide to AdWords, first. Don’t waste a bunch of money.

Or, you can use articles to drive traffic to your squeeze page, and get even more subscribers for your list. You can just yank components from your old newsletters to do that. As you do this, and as you start studying blogging and pinging and everything else, what’s going to happen? You’re going to start getting ranked in the search engines and indexed.

You don’t even need to think. It’s going to be a copy, a quick read of it to make sure it makes sense and is still applicable, and then paste. You could develop a whole new traffic source based on all the content you’ve already done, and it can all lead to your list-building page.

Blogging is going to do two things for you. Number one, it’s going to build your list because you’re going to have an opt-in box on your blog. Number two, you’re going to have links, which are your affiliate links.

Number three, you could include AdSense there or something like that and besides building your list, you could instantaneously–literally over night–you could have a brand new income stream.

Here’s the thing, right now, you don’t need to be worried about all that stuff. You need to be worried about getting one good squeeze page that converts well and adds new members to your list, every day. As you learn about traffic, then drive a hundred different types of traffic to your list-building page in as many ways as you can, so that you can make some money.

You don’t need to be worried about creating 5,000 squeeze pages for different uses. You don’t need to be worried about creating 5,000 different offers for different things. You need one good offer that you can drive lots of traffic to, so that you can build a tremendous list. Plus, you won’t have to do the work over and over again.

If you study one form of traffic at a time and as you master each of them, things get really cool. What ends up happening is you drive a whole bucket load of traffic to your list-building page, people think you’re the best, and you make a bunch of money in the process. How cool is that?

Teleseminar Series | List Building: To Target or Not to Target? That is the Question

July 1st, 2009

Disabled Veterans Teleseminar Training Series

Rick Burdo Here!

To All Our Veterans.

Often, new marketers don’t know they need to be list building right from the start. But think about it, what’s the one thing that all successful marketing gurus have?

A huge, massive, incredibly gargantuan list.

When people figure that out, they try to build one of their own, but they don’t always go about it in the right way. Sure, they get a domain, register with a hosting service, build a great squeeze page, and set up an autoresponder series, but where do they get traffic?

Co-registration is a very easy and fast way to do it, but you have to remember that some services don’t offer targeting. That means that your ad will be set out indiscriminately with ads from other people. There might be offers for toothpaste, baby diapers, fitness newsletters, and Internet marketing stuff all on the same page. Sure, some people might be interested, but what if they’re just getting anyone and everyone to sign up? If you have a newsletter about search engine optimization and a soccer Mom who only comes online to read email and surf around a bit signs up… well… what do you think the chances are of that lead sticking to your list?

Slim and none.

And even if they do, they won’t be interesting in your newsletter or offer or whatever because it’s highly technical and focused and that soccer mom may not even know what search engine optimization is.

You can find co-registration services that do target an audience, and there are other ways to be list building with a targeted crowd.

Pay-per-click is a very targeted market for list building. AdWords and Overture, for instance, place relevant ads on search engine results pages. For instance, let’s say you have an ebook about writing articles. Where would you want your ad to show up? On pages where people were searching for “how to write articles” or something like “writing articles,” right? If someone is searching for those terms, you can bet that they want to write, but need a little guidance. That person is your perfect customer.

Blogging is another way for you to be list building around a targeted audience. The first thing you should do when you start a blog is to put the opt-in box at the top. That way, when people read your blog and enjoy it, they have the option to sign up for your list. How cool is that?

But again, with a blog, people read it because they’re interested in what you’re blogging about, right? So, say you blog about football. What if you offer a free report with the 10 funniest moments in football history, for instance? Do you think people who came to your blog to read about football might want that report? Sure. Then, you’re list building with people interested in football. When you send them offers of the football equipment you’re an affiliate for, they’ll be your best audience.

When choosing ways to send traffic to your list building page, remember that not all leads and not all traffic is equal. List building should be pursued in places where you’ll find the best leads, not just any leads at all. That way, when your autoresponder series goes out promoting products in your list, you’ll have been spending your list building time and energy on the right audience.

Disabled Veterans Teleseminar | Internet Marketing – How to Approach Google AdWords

Here is something people new to Internet marketing wonder about all the time. They ask me, “Since I first started an AdWords campaign, I don’t know how many clicks I’m going to get. What’s the most expensive CPC (cost per click) that I should be willing to pay for a product that has a $50 profit, or is there some way to figure that out?”

You know what I tell them? “$49.99, if you get 100% conversion.” But we know that’s not going to happen right away in the Internet marketing world. So, the highest you should pay right now is however much you’re willing to flush down the toilet and never see again. Does that make sense?

But maybe it doesn’t. Maybe you’re really new to AdWords and Internet marketing in general, so let’s make this really simple. How much money can you afford to lose a day, and for how many days, until you make this profitable?

If you’re thinking to yourself, Nothing, then you don’t want to be doing AdWords as a source of traffic. There are many other ways to accomplish traffic generation in Internet marketing, and a lot of them are free.

But let’s say you’re willing to spend some money, but just not flushing hundreds of dollars down a day. Decide how much money you can flush down the toilet a day. If you had to open up your wallet and put a bill into your toilet and flush it, how much could you flush a day until you made this profitable, off the top of your head? Could you do $5 a day? Well, then the first thing you do is to set your daily budget at $5.

The thing to remember there is that depending on how much the daily spending number goes in, is how many impressions there are. You may not have enough potential to burn so that the ad is circulated enough to get impressions and click-throughs or you won’t really know how well your ad is going to do. So you do that for what, a week? And you only spend $2 a day. You can waste $5, so that’s an extra $3 a day times seven days that you can afford to spend. So maybe raise it up to $8 for the next seven days.

Find that sweet spot to where your ad is being circulated. It’s a slow process, but you have to keep tweaking. Let me recommend something to you that will be of great benefit if you’re serious about learning AdWords — Perry Marshall’s e-book, The Definitive Guide to AdWords. I would follow it. I would just go for it and see what happens. Just don’t spend more than you can afford to flush.

It’s kind of a cloudy answer, but that’s the truth. You only spend as much as you can afford to flush with paid advertising. Then once you hit it, you’re excited. Sometimes you get it in the first day, and sometimes it takes you a year. That’s the deal. It depends on how quickly you’re willing to change things and move on, and never slow down or get depressed about it.

That’s really the main key, is never, ever giving up on it, but don’t over-extend yourself to the point where you’re not going to be able to pay rent or something. A lot of new Internet marketing people have made that mistake. Your Internet marketing business will just fail if you do that. So, stick to some conservative wisdom, and use AdWords from that vantage point. Make sense?

Disabled Veterans Teleseminar | When Is the Right Time to Create Your Own Product?

Here’s the deal: don’t think about making a product; think about providing value through the free information that you give people that you would have put in your product.

I generally teach people to focus on selling information products, right? And there are a bunch of reasons for that. But the biggest reason is because the profit margins on them are just insanely, insanely high. And when you have a business where you can have insanely high profit margins, it’s just really great to use that to your advantage.

So we’re talking about information products, and by information products we mean audios, videos and text, right? Audios, videos, and text, generally speaking, and specifically when you’re dealing with some sort of how-to information, you know, I didn’t come up with this stuff. I learned this from people like Mark Joyner and Shawn Casey and Alex Mandossian, a bunch of really, really smart guys who taught me how to run multi-million dollar businesses and information products are always the backbone, in my experience.

Obviously, there are million dollar, multi-million dollar, and billion dollar businesses that are not information based, but for someone who’s just starting out and trying to make money online and trying to get their business going, it’s probably one of the paths of least resistance in order to make that happen.

So often, people have an idea for an information product first, and they get it in their head that it’s time to create a product before they’re making any money online, and that actually is the exact opposite of what you should ever do with information marketing and information products.

And the reason for that is very simple. You should start out always marketing other people’s information products. And there are several reasons, right?

A high-speed overview is you don’t have to do any customer service, you don’t have to be good at writing copy, you don’t have to have a sales letter, you don’t have to know what the market wants to buy, you don’t even have to have a market in order to start selling people’s information products online. You don’t have to do any of these things.

When you’re selling other people’s information products, it gives you the opportunity to test things out. And see, the beauty of information products is that you use very similar information or information in the same vein of interest in order to engage and communicate with your potential prospects, or your customers.

And what I mean by that is in the form of e-mails, in the form of teleseminars, in the form of sales letters, in the form of special reports. In the form of podcasts, in the form of videos. Whatever the form of communication is that you have with your prospects, that is information marketing in its raw form, so don’t get confused, distracted, or moving in the wrong direction of creating your product first and foremost until you have a proven track record, until you’ve built your list, until you know people in that market will buy stuff, and you’re making money as an affiliate. Otherwise you’re going to wind up working for months and months and months and months at something that likely will never make you a dime.

Teleseminar | When should people start thinking about creating their own product?

June 28th, 2009

Disabled Veterans Teleseminar Training Series

Rick Burdo Here!

A Proud American

 would like to Say,

Thank You

To All Our Veterans.

God Bless USA.

People should start thinking about creating their own product after they’ve made $100,000.00 online. In my opinion. After they’ve made $100,000.00 online, because that first $100,000.00 will be the easiest money you’ve ever made in your life if you follow my instructions.

If you create your products first, it will be very, very challenging for you to make $1,000.00, $2,000.00, $5,000.00 or even $10,000.00 out of the gate. Unless you just happen to get lucky, which most people don’t.

So, step one is wait until you’ve made a hundred grand so you really have a solid feeling for the marketplace and what people are out there doing and what you can do to better, to improve the marketplace, to improve the products that are already out there.

However, the information, the knowledge, the ideas, the concepts, the principles, the inspiration that you have for your product, can be used and capitalized on in some massive ways, because if you have information that people want, but you’re not ready to create a product yet, you can use that information to sell other people’s products in the same market or industry, thus gaining a tremendously strong and powerful following that probably will trump the majority if not all of your competitors in that marketplace.

Here’s the deal: don’t think about making a product; think about providing value through the free information that you give people that you would have put in your product.

Internet Marketing and List Building: Teleseminars Can Be Very Lucrative

June 27th, 2009

Disabled Veterans Teleseminar Training Series

Rick Burdo Here!

I Say, Thank You

To All Our Veterans.

God Bless America

Do you know what topic you’re going to be list building around? If you want to succeed with Internet marketing, that’s absolutely key. You need to figure that out, and it basically can either be something you want to learn a lot about, or it can be something you already know a lot about. Either one is completely legitimate. The next step is to go ahead and invite a lot of people who have been list building, and who have lists and products to sell to take part in your teleseminar interview series.

For instance, what if you wanted to do a teleseminar series on golf, and that you know of several bestselling authors that want to sell more books and so, will agree to do a teleseminar series with you. What they do is they promote to your interview series. I’m sure you’ve seen this done before in the Internet marketing world. They promote to your interview series, and on the thank-you page, after people opt-in for that interview series, you sell a golfing product and they earn affiliate commission. Then you do your series of webinars or teleseminars, and presto! You’re list building and making money.

You sell their product at the end of the calls through your affiliate link. All of a sudden, they’re making money and you’re making money. You’re building up a series of recordings on a topic, again, that you either want to learn about and you know nothing about, so you become an inquisitive interviewer or a topic that you know something about so you become an expert interviewer.

This is a topic I have all this experience on such and such a topic. We’re interviewing you on this topic to find out what your thoughts or feelings are on it, and ask you these questions through your particular area of expertise of X, Y, and Z. Bam, bam, bam! You’re off and running.

You basically get 10 or 12 people in that topic who have lists to help you be list building, too, and that’s how you get started. That’s how I got started with Internet marketing.

Then what you do is you go to ClickBank and you find at least four products that apply to golfing. You buy them, and you read them or try them, and make sure that they’re great products. the next step is to offer them to the list that you’ve been building in your autoresponder series. You can start with four messages, but as time goes on, you may want to offer more and more to the people on your list. The more they come to respect and trust you, the more they’ll buy the products you recommend, and you’re making money. That’s just how Internet marketing works.

That’s really all there is to it. Set up an interview series with people in your niche. Put your list building on overdrive, using their lists, and then offer products to the list you’ve managed to build from the teleseminar series. Not only that, but if you record the series, you’ll have a product of your own! Internet marketing isn’t really that difficult. It’s all about list building and making money from that list. That’s really the Internet marketing secret.

When choosing a web host for your Internet marketing business, it’s not always wise to go for the cheapest host, as we discussed in an earlier article in our “Getting Started with Internet Marketing” series. One important consideration, if you want to use every possible tool in your traffic manager toolset, is to get hosting that offers “Fantastico” as part of their service. This comes with “cPanel” control panel. Fantastico is an automatic script installer and it can automatically add content management systems, customer relationship software, bulletin boards, shopping carts, wikis, and these may also be very useful to your Internet marketing business. But Fantastico can also install blogs, very very easily.

Of the blogs available, WordPress seems to be the most the most popular for a couple of reasons. It’s popular with Internet marketing people because the search engines seem to like it best. But it’s also very customizable. There are thousands of themes that you can upload and use for free and you can now easily add information to your sidebar in the form of “widgets.” So, rather than having to go into the theme and manipulate PHP code, you can simply decide which widgets you want to use or which you want to customize and it’s very, very easy to do.

So, if you want a WordPress blog, now or in the future, and you aren’t tech savvy enough to do it from scratch, the first thing you want to do is to find cPanel hosting with Fantastico. Then, you want to log into your cPanel account. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see a blue smiley face that says either “Fantastico” or “Fantastico Deluxe.” Click on it.

After you’re inside Fantastico, you’ll see a list of scripts that are available for you to install on your website. Scroll down to “Blogs,” and you’ll see a list, including b2Evolution, Nucleus, pMachineFree and WordPress. Click on WordPress. The next screen will show you how big the WordPress installation will be and how much disk space you have remaining. If you have enough room, it’s very, very simple from here. Click on New Installation. The following screen will ask you to fill in a few options, and then, you click “Install WordPress.” Done!

The next thing you want to do is to go into the blog and customize it to your liking. You can add or subtract widgets, choose a new theme, change colors of the old one, and so much more. Blogging is all about having fun and about being unique. Be sure that if you’re an Internet marketing person that you aren’t too outrageous with your theme or nobody will take you seriously. That doesn’t mean you can’t have sharp colors or cool pictures, just don’t use something that will put people off. Remember, even though a blog is fun to use and great for driving traffic to your main Internet marketing site, there are special ways to write posts so that the search engines will notice you. We’ll talk more about that tomorrow…
